4. ↑ The Frasers of Philorth, Volume 2 Alexander Fraser baron Saltoun 1879 - Some speculate that this line could have descended from Alexander Abernethy brother of George Abernethy of Barrie whose descendants held the property until 1722. Two of his sons, William and George, are unaccounted for in the visitations. A third son, James Abernethy had quarreled during an election dinner in Aberdeen with John Leith (John Lee) of Leith Hall and shot him dead in the street. James escaped but was outlawed and died abroad (presumably in the colonies). James had four children of record in Scotland (James, who died without heir; Jane who married Alexander Duff; and Isobel who married Lieutenant Graham; and Helen) It is unknown if James had additional children in the colonies (if that is where he went).
