Was an English merchant and politician who served as Lord Mayor of London from 1457 to 1458. He purchased the manor of Blickling, near Aylsham, in Norfolk from Sir John Fastolf in 1452, and Hever Castle in Kent in 1462.[1] He was the great-grandfather of Queen Anne Boleyn, the mother of Queen Elizabeth I. Sir Geoffrey built the domestic, mercantile and civic fortunes of the Boleyn family, and raised its status from the provincial gentry, as his brother Thomas Boleyn made a career of distinction in church and university, together building the family's wealth, influence and reputation.

Il fut le fils aîné de Sir Richard et de Katherine, la fille et cohéritière de Sir Humphrey Browne.
1551, alors qu'il n'avait que six ou sept ans, il devint l'héritier de son arrière-grand-père, Sir Roger Townshend et son héritage comprit plus de vingt manoirs près de Raynham de la paroisse du comté de Norfolk et d'autres propriétés faisant de lui l'un des gentlemen les plus riches d'Est-Anglie.
1553, il entra au Trinity College de Cambridge, mais il n'obtint pas de diplôme.
1565, il reçut la livrée de ses terres, bien qu'il fut encore mineur.
1566, il fut élu au Parlement ou Chambre des communes en tant que chevalier du Comté, mais il participa peu à l'administration locale de Norfolk cat il fut après son grand-père paternel au service de Thomas Howard, 4e duc de Norfolk à Londres.
1572-1585, après l'exécution du 4e duc, il continua à servir son fils et héritier Philip Howard, 20e comte d'Arundel qui fut encore mineur au moment de la mort de son père.
Il épousa d'abord Ursula, fille de Sir Christopher Heydon.
Il épousa ensuite Jane (vers 1547-1618), la fille de Sir Michael Stanhope (décédé en 1552) de Shelford du Nottinghamshire.
1576-1584, il occupa avec sa deuxième épouse Jane des postes à la cour.
1588, il servit dans la flotte contre l’Invincible Armada et il fut anobli en mer le 26 juillet par le Lord-grand-amiral Charles Howard.
1590, il mourut à Stoke Newington (aujourd’hui un quartier de Londres).
